REQUIREMENTS AND OTHER DETAILS: Important information from Corky Siegel:

MY COACHING EXPERIENCE: In my more secret life, I have been sharing with musicians all over the world – professionals as well as beginners – a discovery that allows musicians to consistently tap into the natural dynamic power in their music, with results so fantastic and so cherished by the participants, that I was obliged to continue offering this guidance. Eventually I came to realize I better write this down before I get hit by a bus. And so the book – LET YOUR MUSIC SOAR – THE EMOTIONAL CONNECTION was born. I have continued guiding individual players, singers, conductors, choral groups, symphonies, rock, jazz, heavy metal, hip-hop, drum line, folk, and classical ensembles, through this simple, and transformational approach for over 30 years.

TESTIMONIAL: "I am walking around rather amazed today. I spent some time practicing this morning, playing Bach and exploring your ideas and suggestions. What has occurred defies description. I know you’ve seen the impact this has on people - you can add me to the list. The way I play seems to have fundamentally changed and improved overnight. I can't actually believe it, but I think it is true." - Michael Miles, Music Education Director, Old Town School of Music

WHAT WILL ACTUALLY HAPPEN IN THE WORKSHOP? I will guide you through a simple and mechanical exercise that is designed to establish in you – both mentally and physically - a full dynamic range and put it at your command in a couple minutes. With this expanded pallet of expressive possibility, and with minimal guidance from me, you should begin to experience immediate improvements. These include a performance for you and the audience that is more fun, more passionate, more colorful, more exciting, more interesting, more compelling, more emotional, with richer tone and dimension.

I will explain in depth how this simple technique works and why it works and why the most difficult aspect is remembering to apply it. For one reason, there are so many other things to think about in music, that full expression is left in the back of the bus, when we really wish it were driving. This technique takes care of that. And for teachers, all you need to do is spend two minutes or less with each student (or with each ensemble), applying this technique, and a deeper expression will become part of your daily experience.

An important structure of the workshop is that you will have the opportunity to experience this technique first hand but also be able to study the performances from the other participants, watching how they apply the technique and how their performance is transformed as a result. Each participant will have something different to bring and this will offer you greater understanding and experience about the secret power of dynamics.

REQUIREMENTS: The only skill level requirement is that you must know how to play or sing at least one song fairly well--even "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" is acceptable if you can play it or sing it with CONFIDENCE. Professional musicians and teachers, as well as beginners, will acquire an immense amount of value from this workshop.

WHAT TO BRING: (See exclusions below) Bring your instrument and/or your singing voice. (See exclusion list below) This includes any brass, any wind instruments, all strings (including guitar or electric guitar, bass guitar), hand or trap drums (for drummer/perc you must be prepared to play at least two rhythm patterns with CONFIDENCE). A touch sensitive digital piano will be available at the venue.

HOW TO PREPARE: Please be prepared to play a couple different compositions or songs. We will choose one and focus on a 30 second segement.

THE FOLLOWING INSTRUMENTS ARE EXCLUDED because they are non-touch sensitive, for the most part: Bagpipes, harpsichord, organ, and recorder. If you are an expert recorder player, this workshop could work for you. Since this is a workshop about dynamics and touch sensitivity, these instruments will not readily cooperate with this technique.

I look forward to working with you and sharing this transformational technique with you.

Sincerely,

Corky Siegel
