Winner of the prestigious 3Arts Award in 2015, Chihsuan Yang (Violin, Erhu, Piano) uprooted to the United States at the age of 15. A native of Taiwan, Chihsuan began studying music at a very early age. Today, her renowned skill and eclectic versatility with the violin, erhu, and piano can be heard throughout the globe. From playing with Yo-Yo Ma and Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys, to Grammy Award winning Kings of Leon and playing for His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Chihsuan’s body of work spans across a multitude of genres and reaches beyond borders.
Her expansive collaborations carry over to Las Guitars de Espana, a Spanish guitar/flamenco ensemble and frequently performs with Grammy nominated artist, Matthew Santos. She has performed with a myriad of chamber music ensembles, including the New Millennium Orchestra of Chicago, Chinese Fine Arts Society of Chicago, Fulcrum Point, Chicago Opera Theatre, Access Contemporary Music, Yellow River Performing Arts, Illinois Symphony Orchestra, Miami Symphony, Metropolis Symphony, Illinois Philharmonic, Ensemble Del Niente, and International Chamber Artists.
Her participation with high-profile projects continues with the original world musical, Sita Ram. In collaboration with the Lookingglass Theatre, Natya Dance Teatre, and Chicago Children’s Choir, Sita Ram earned three nominations for the Joseph Jefferson Awards and was relaunched at Chicago’s Harris Theatre with renowned success.
Chihsuan's work reaches beyond live music and can also be heard on the trailer for the biographical historical drama Hyde Park on Hudson, staring Bill Murray. In 2014, Chihsuan performed on recordings for Brian Wilson's 11th studio album "No Pier Pressure," recorded on PBS “Soundstage” with Brian Wilson at the Venetian Theater in Las Vegas, and in 2015, recorded with Jim Peterik from the band Survivor and toured with Bollywood mega star, Arijit Singh.
While being featured as a soloist in various recordings, concerts, and symphonies, Chihsuan continues to work and record with a variety of artists and released her debut solo album Ways to Say Hello, a mix of original World/Electronic compositions. Chihsuan is currently recording her second studio album and planning on releasing it in the coming year.
