MY TRAVELS WITH CORKY SIEGEL'S CHAMBER BLUES

On the Road - Recording the New CD - Page Four

WOOFY GIRL STROLL
Woofy Girl Stroll is a chamber blues you dance to and on many performances we have the audience up doing the Woofy Girl Stroll around the whole theater. If you are familiar with Siegel-Schwall's music, you know that they are known for their sensitive love songs. Songs like I Hate You Baby.

I asked Corky to write a nice song for once and a romantic piece for me. Corky's favorite blues master is Howlin' Wolf. He dearly loved the Wolf. Back in the 60's, Wolf used to call Corky my boy. When Blues Legend and long-time member of Howlin' Wolf's band Eddie Shaw recently sat in with Chamber Blues at the Yale, a popular Blues club in Vancouver, Eddie announced that when he saw Cork was in town he "had to come see my man." I teased Corky that he must be getting old since he was no longer regarded as my boy! Here is a picture of Eddie with Chamber Blues at the Yale.

The next day we drove 6 hours further north in Canada to the International Root and Blues Festival in Salmon Arm. Corky and Chamber Blues jammed with Lunasa (a band from Ireland) and Hassan Hakmoun and his Morrocan group all at the same time. Here they are together. Later, Corky instigated a trading of licks between another harmonica player on another stage about 1/4 mile away. The audience between the stages looked like they were at a tennis match.

In June, on our way through Minnesota, we stopped at a friend's beautiful summer home on Bay Lake. As payment for putting the band up, our friend Don, requested that the group serenade him on his boat as he drove around the lake. You can imagine the surprise of the neighbors as we pulled up to various docks. One tiny admirer ran out from her bath not yet dressed so she could catch Jill playing her cello - see photo!

One of our favorite places to perform in Minnesota is The Dakota in Minneapolis - run by Lowell Pickett. The Dakota has the most incredible gourmet creations - as Kurt Elling has agreed, don't miss their unsurpassed chocolate pot de creme dessert! Of course one of the reasons that we adore The Dakota is that they feed us so well, and take care of artists so wonderfully. It may very well be the reason that The Dakota is also a favorite of Toots Thielmans, Kenny Werner, and many jazz greats! Here is a photo of Chamber Blues with Randy Sabien on the stage.
